Surrealism Project
There are many forms of photography, and there are a lot of ways to incorporate different elements into your photographs. You can make very interesting photos by using surrealism. Surrealism began as a cultural movement in the early 1920s, but is now a form of art that is used by many artists. It has often been used in photography.
Surrealism in photography is using elements of surprise to create a unique photograph. Surreal photos have abstract, unexpected designs that are eye-catching and grab attention from the viewers. In a surreal photo, the composition will most likely be altered in some way, angles and perspectives can be changed, and lighting and physics are played with, as well. The details are very important, as they can make or break the photo. The photographer wants to make the impossible seem real, so they want to try and make the elements in the image come together in a way that doesn’t look like they are all different photos, but one whole picture. When using surrealism, there is juxtaposition, and the image will typically have a dreamlike quality.
Juxtaposition is putting two things that don’t belong together into one picture. An example of juxtaposition could be putting a fish in the sky, or a tree growing on the wall of the building. By incorporating juxtaposition into a photograph, it creates an odd-looking effect that makes people think about the photo. It completely pushes the limits to regular thinking and changes the way people see things.
